It took a "Toad in a Hole"

I never thought I would ever get one of my kids to eat eggs. It isn't for lack of offering or trying to give them a sample of my portion.

Imagine my surprise when just last week I decided to make myself a "Toad in a Hole" (an egg fried in a hole made in a slice of bread) and Matt asked if he could try it. Let me tell you that boy ate half of my breakfast (I was starving by lunch time). What surprised me most was that the part he wanted to eat was the yolk.

Since that first try I have made him "Toad in the Hole" just about every other day and the first part he eats is the yolk.

Oh, I do have to tell you the thing that probably made this meal appealing to him is the slice of cheese I let melt on the top. Hey, he's young with a great metabolism a little cheese won't hurt him. I am just glad he'll eat something more nutritious than a Pop Tart. Score for Mom!!!

Cookie Time!!! Somewhat!

Tis the season for baking cookies. On Monday night, we started our baking for the holidays. I pulled out the Betty Crocker Cookie book mom gave me last year and started with Peanut Butter Blossoms. Emily and Matt helped with rolling the balls of dough and covering them in sugar - for the first two cookie trays. They helped with the kisses on the first tray once but they quickly lost interest in helping between baking times. Not very surprised about that. Of course, they were anxious about eating them but disappointed when I told them they had to wait until the kiss hardened. They did get one cookie before bed time.

Well my hopes of baking a new cookie every night have waned. It is okay though because I would then be eating cookies every night. So, the plan has now changed to making a new cookie when the current one is almost gone. Next up Russian Tea Cakes.

Time for a Christmas Carol

Dave's parents were here this weekend for their annual Christmas visit. We open presents with them on Sunday night. During this particular visit we did some Christmas caroling after the present were opened. Grandma brought her keyboard so we had some accompaniment. Matt of course at one time brought out his paper jam guitar. He was very animated during "Joy to the World" and slowly faded with each carol. Emily on the other hand was otherwise occupied with her new "mini" Pet Shop toys. It was a fun time. The kids really enjoyed having Grandpa & Grandma visit.

Will it be a tooth for Christmas

Matt's bottom tooth has been loose for a while now. Basically hanging on by a thread!! I asked him earlier this week if he would loose the tooth for Christmas and he said "maybe". This tooth was so loose I swear he would swallow it without knowing.

Well, tonight while playing with a new Lego he got for Christmas he turned around at one point and said "look". Sure enough he was holding his tooth. His comment, "it almost fell out in my mouth".

Thankfully he didn't swallow it!! But once again being true to form his permanent tooth was lurking in the background so he doesn't really have a toothless grin. Tonight the tooth fairy comes! Matt told us he thought the tooth fairy would leave him $100... I don't know what tooth fairy he is thinking of. :)

Matt's "To Do" List

This morning Matt confiscated my "to do" list in the kitchen to post his own "to do" items for the day.

Here is his list:

1. Driving lessons - Today Grandpa Wessel is coming to town and while we were at his house this summer he let Matt drive his golf cart......I think Matt thought Grandpa would be driving it to NJ. I had to explain to him there would be no driving lessons this visit.

2. Hair cut - took place after school.

3. Home work - Matt insisted on waiting to do it with Grandpa and they got it done.

4. Go to school - check!

5. Put fires out - people this is Matt! His day isn't complete without some mention of fire fighting. :)

6. See Santa - not going to happen, although Matt has told me that he will be staying up on Christmas Eve to get a glimpse of Santa and Rudolph.... hmmmm!!

All in all Matt accomplished most of his list. He did better getting his "to do" list completed than me with mine. Tomorrow is another day. We will have to see who gets to use the "to do" board - Matt or me!!
